There is a new wave of legislation hitting Sacramento that aims to “streamline” housing along the California coast. While the goal is to address our state’s housing crisis, these laws often create a “fast track” that can bypass the traditional California Coastal Commission oversight we rely on to protect public access.

Our Take: We believe in housing equity, but we also believe that public access is a non-negotiable right. We are watching these policy shifts to ensure that “streamlining” doesn’t become a loophole for private developers to enclose our social spaces or block our view corridors.

We will be tracking the local implementation of these laws as they relate to the Long Beach and San Clemente shoreline.
